Susan Beallor-Snyder possesses a creative, inquisitive nature that leads her to explore the world around her. A native New Yorker, she was surrounded by the sights and sounds of the city which she documented in black and white photography. As a classical goldsmith, her hand-crafted jewelry designs evolved into dramatic innovation. Always thinking of the next body of work Beallor-Snyder recognized how natural manila rope fulfilled her quest for expressing emotion in a visual way.
Weaving Narratives, a 10 x 8-foot natural manila rope sculpture is featured at the US Botanic Garden located on the grounds of the U.S. Capitol. Beallor-Snyder created Love & Gratitude, a limited edition of 50 individually designed natural manila rope sculptures exclusively for CB2 (Crate & Barrel’s sister brand). She was chosen as one of the first artisans to present handcrafted artwork for a new category of the company.
Most recently the desire to use found materials, paint and repurposed paper were realized in a new body of work – Painted Paper Collage. Inspired by Beallor-Snyder’s surroundings and experience working with different media, the artist translates feelings and emotions through texture, color and pattern in this exciting new direction.
Beallor-Snyder exhibits include The United States Botanic Garden, Wash DC/ The Children’s Museum of the Arts, New York, The Museum of Contemporary Art in Atlanta, Georgia / The Bar Harbor Historical Society, / Showhouses in Atlanta and New York. Among her editorial credits are the Huffington Post, New England Home, Buckhead Lifestyle Magazine, New York Textile Month (cover) and profiled in other decorative, design and online publications.
